St Kyrel Trust - Helping the poor help themselves

It’s 2016 – Happy New Year!

Published in 20/01/2017

In their last board meeting, the trustees approved increasing the number of students to be served by the charity by 94 students, to reach a total number of 1000 students. This landmark figure was only possible through your donations – many thanks indeed for your continuous support to this wonderful cause of making a difference in the lives of many truly needy youths.

As of January 2016, we will be opening a new area of service is Delga, and the plan is to begin with 10 students, increasing to 30 on stages along the year. Delga is a poor city in Upper Egypt whose Christian minority was brutally hit by the Muslim brotherhood in August 2013.

20 Years of Service: events in 2016

2016 marks our 20 years of serving the poor and unprivileged students. Therefore, we have prepared special events to mark this important milestone.

Celebratory dinner: This yearly event is usually organised around the commemoration data of Pope Kyrelos, the patron saint of the charity. Guest speaker is Metropolitan Moussa; Bishop of the Youth. The event will take place at Tara Hotel, Kensington on Sunday February 28th 2016, is open to all members of our community and Saint Kyrel Trust Supports. Please pencil the date in your diary!

New concert ‘Anastasis’: from darkness to light’. The concert will be presented by the St Kyrel Choir and Orchestra, lead by Prof. Michael Henein, jointly with the London Greek Choir, lead by Fr. Joseph Paliouras. The event will take place at The St Panteliemon Greek Church, Harrow, HA3 9QN, UK, on Saturday 7th May 2016.

Thames Cruise: Based on great demand and smashing success of our November 15 Thames Cruise, we plan to take to the Thames again on Saturday 18th June 2016. The cruise will feature an open roof boat to enjoy the weather of what promises to be a fine summer evening!

Organisational News

After 19 years of faithful service to Saint Kyrel Trust, Mrs Rasha Farag, has decided to step down as a trustee. We cannot thank Rasha enough for all her services and efforts throughout the years, and wish her well in her future charitable services.

This year, Saint Kyrel Trust board of trustees has grown by two members who have been working with the trust for several years. Please join us in welcoming Mr Emad Elias and Mrs Rene Barsoum, who will be responsible for our concerts and marketing campaign respectively.

Our pool of volunteers has also grown both in the UK and in Egypt, for which we are ever so grateful; without whose support we may never be able to progress, or function in certain areas.
